Squamish Oceanfront Construction Update
June 2021: Oceanfront Squamish Construction Updates
Matthews West will commence the hauling of material for future infrastructure projects taking place on the Oceanfront peninsula. Hauling is expected to start Monday June 14th 2021 and run through mid October 2021.
This hauling project (in combination with Main Road Construction currently underway) affects access to the Oceanfront beach and trails. This map outlines the controlled and restricted areas during construction. Main Road construction is expected to last until the end of June 2021.
The map above outlines a new yellow gate restricting vehicle access with an adjacent parking area for those wanting to access the Cattermole and Mamquam Blind Channel walking trails. Enhanced safety precautions will be taken through increased signage and onsite security personnel.
As members of the community, we understand the importance of access to these trails. As such, we strive to maintain as much access to the trails and water as is safely possible. However, as construction activity on site increases there will be areas that will remain closed to the public until such work has been completed and it is deemed safe to re-open.
We ask that any visitors taking advantage of the trails at Oceanfront Squamish remain only in the Areas Open to Public (as denoted in the Circulation Map and as may be updated as work progresses) and that visitors remain acutely aware of their surroundings while on site. Visitors to Oceanfront Squamish will be entering an active construction site and will be utilizing the trails at their own risk.
Please keep a look out for new signage throughout the site. We look forward to welcoming everyone back to visit the enhanced trails in the near future.
